About This Tour

The Damajagua experience begins away from the resort strip, where the landscape changes quickly from coastal roads to green foothills and river country. After check-in, guests meet the local waterfall team, receive mandatory safety equipment and listen to a briefing before starting the uphill trail. The walk is part of the experience: it passes tropical vegetation and gives the group time to settle into the pace before entering the canyon.

Once in the river system, the route becomes a natural playground shaped by water and limestone. Depending on water level and the section in use that day, guests may swim across clear pools, slide down smooth rock channels and use approved jump points. Guides position themselves throughout the route and explain where to step, sit, slide or enter the water. The goal is excitement with controlled movement, not a race through the canyon.

This product is written around the seven-waterfall circuit because it fits most Puerto Plata shore schedules and is the version most commonly sold to visitors. Reaching the higher sections, including a full 27-waterfall route, requires more time and stronger physical conditioning and should be sold as a separate product. Weather, river level and park operations can change the exact sequence for safety.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Not on the standard version described here. This product uses the popular seven-waterfall circuit. A full 27-waterfall route takes longer and is intended for very fit participants.
No. Where park conditions allow, guides can direct guests to slides, steps or lower-impact entries. The available alternative depends on the specific waterfall and river level.
Minimum-age rules apply and may change by circuit or operating partner. Provide every child's age at booking so eligibility can be confirmed before pickup.
Guests should be comfortable in moving water and natural pools. A life jacket is mandatory, but it does not replace basic water confidence.
Wear swimwear under quick-drying clothing, secure water shoes or closed sport shoes, and bring a towel and dry change of clothes. Flip-flops are not suitable for the canyon.
This is an active canyoning experience with uphill walking and wet rock surfaces, so it is generally not recommended for those conditions. When in doubt, choose a lower-impact tour.
The park and local guides control access for safety. The route may be shortened, delayed or canceled if water conditions are not appropriate.
